Message from the Principal
Greetings!

Welcome to the beginning of the 2018-19 school year! We are eager to get started and want to share some general information with all of you about some things new here at school. First, we have several new adult faces joining us including school counselor Ms. Jenna Brown, second grade teacher Ms. Haley Workman, third grade teacher Ms. Christel Pitner and Spanish teacher/track coach Mr. Paul Johnson. Working alongside Ms. Archer as student teacher is Ms. Ashley Hopkins while student teaching with Mr. Clements will be Ms. Maya Wahl.

We will again be serving breakfast daily beginning at 8:00 AM and will spend the first week learning some new entry procedures with both elementary and high school students due to new security measures. Because we will be switching the student parking to the lot directly in front of the school and expecting ALL students to enter the building through the main entry, our elementary students will be taught a slightly different early arrival procedure during the first days of school involving where they will be expected to assemble if they arrive earlier than 8:15 AM. The lot in front of the school will be marked and students asked to park in the back two rows or in the spaces in front of the swimming pool. The front row will be reserved for patron/employee parking. We will help students to park in appropriate spaces during the first week with this new parking arrangement.

One of the goals we have for this year is to enhance our opportunities around shared leadership and improved school climate. To that end, all high school students, teachers, coaches and others will participate in a tremendous leadership program at Chewelah Peak Learning Center September 18,19. We will share more information about this program in the opening days but want you to know of the dates and that this is an overnight program we are excited to share with our students. Athletics/activities schedules have been arranged to accommodate this activity. Departing 8:30 Sept. 18, students will be returning late afternoon Sept. 19. This program is grant funded and cost free to students.

We look forward to seeing everyone back for the first day of school on Wednesday, August 29!

A few dates to calendar follow:
August 27, Elementary Open House/Ice Cream, 6PM
August 29, First day of School
September 25, Picture Day
October 5, Homecoming vs. Pomeroy

Go Eagles!

Sincerely,
Mark Purvine,
St. John School Principal
